First macro attempt with the new 5D MkII I'm sharing with my brother. The lens in question is a Canon MP-E 1-5x macro lens shot at around 1.5-2x magnification (i think). Lit using a MR-14EX. Stablised using a monopod. My previous attempts with the MP-E on my old 20D weren't great due to the insanely dark viewfinder at higher magnification. The much larger/brighter VF on the 5D MkII makes it much easier to judge focus. The downside though is that the large sensor picks up dust very easily and when using this lens, all those dust bunnies will pop up all over the image. Spent a good few minutes cleaning up all the specks in photoshop!

Squirrels are just so damned cute. This handheld shot was quite hard to get sharp due to the poor lighting conditions. 1/60s at 420mm was really pushing the limits of the image stabilisation on my 300mm F4 L IS (with 1.4x TC). The newer generations of IS are much more effective though, giving 3-4 stops instead of the 2 stops i have on this 2nd generation IS lens.

Yes, i'll be the first to admit that i ended up using the wrong ISO for this shot as I was shooting some squirrels under some rather poor light just before this. Anyway, nothing a little noise reduction couldn't fix. Used my non-macro setup (300mm F4 IS + 1.4x TC) with natural light for this one. Had to crop quite a bit though.

This tiny frog is only about 1 cm across. Just look at the size of the water drop in the background in comparison to the frog. I had to use a macro lens with a 1.4x TC to get enough magnification (on a 1.6x body). The golden specks on it's body are quite interesting as well. Lighting was via my macro twin-lite flash.

This was shot with a very simple setup. A glass of freshly poured Erdinger (my fav beer!) on the table, a black card held in the background and a high-output LED torchlight for lighting. There was almost no post-processing done apart from the usual saturation, contrast, sharpness tweaks.
